Jack was born August 1. Dubuque, Iowa to Francis and Loretta (O'Connell) Shanahan.
He attended school in the South Garryowen and Zwingle area and graduated from Wahlert high School in 1. Jack is a US Army Veteran and was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the UAW Local 9. He worked as a partner with his Dad, Francis Shanahan, at their service station; for Klauer Manufacturing and retired from John Deere. Jack loved spending time with his family and friends.
You could frequently find him on the side lines watching his sons, nephews and nieces playing sports. Jack was always willing to lend a helping hand and never wanted anything in return. He is survived by his two sons, Christopher (Tanya) Shanahan, and Nicholas (Andrea) Shanahan, both of Cedar Rapids. His mother Loretta Shanahan, of Dubuque; two sisters, Jane (B.
J.) Featherston, of Epworth, Iowa and Julie Shanahan, of Dubuque; two brothers Mike Shanahan, of Springbrook, Iowa and Bob (Becky) Shanahan, of Maquoketa, Iowa; along with many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was preceded in death by his father Francis Shanahan. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Mercy Medical Center especially the 3rd Floor for making Jack's last days comfortable for him and his grieving family and friends.

And served on the Historical Preservation Commission.

She was very active in her community, loved playing cards, spending time with her family, and made friends anywhere she went.
