Alienware 1. 7 R4 (2. Review & Rating. The Alienware 1. 7 R4 (starts at $1,2. With Nvidia GTX 1. Alienware 1. 7 is among the top gaming performers among single- card laptops. As tested, it's not cheap, but still costs less than the Editors' Choice Origin EON1. X 1. 0 Series, and Alienware's generous configuration options allow you to build the machine that fits your needs.

The Exception (2017) Review

While it's not any more travel- friendly than the EON1. X, the Alienware 1. R4 is our new Editors' Choice high- end gaming laptop for its features and nearly unmatched power. Heavy Duty Design. The 1. 7 R4 looks a lot like its recently launched stablemate, the Alienware 1. R3, in just about every way, including an excellent sturdy construction.

It's made of solid anodized aluminum and magnesium alloy on the exterior, while the keyboard deck is rubberized for a soft feel. The lid is silver, but the rest of the laptop is black, a good contrast to the many LED light strips that adorn the chassis.

Read a full review of the 2017 Honda CR-V's standard features, trim levels, and available options. Right on the heels of the refreshed Pathfinder, the updated 2017 Nissan Rogue will gain a second powertrain option: its first-ever hybrid system. Yes, the narrative is occasionally clunky and there is often more tell than show. But a strong ensemble offers compensation.

The 2017 Kia Sportage SX Turbo looks cool and is fun to drive, but it's probably not the most sensible pick in its highly competitive class. In recent years, some movies have reopened the World War II files.

These customizable lights are located on the sides of the body, lid, logos, power button, keyboard, and even the touchpad. That sounds like a lot of lights, but Alienware has used just enough restraint for it look striking rather than flashy. Laptops with 1. 7- inch screens are rarely meant as daily commute companions, but this one is particularly difficult to carry. The EON1. 7- X 1. Series measures 1. R4's weight isn't unusual.

The Razer Blade Pro fares much better in this regard, at less than an inch thick with a premium look and feel thanks to its anodized aluminum body, but at 7. If you're looking to go lighter, but keep the 1. HP Omen 1. 7delivers solid gaming power that's not quite as heavy at 6.

You might be asking, why not just get a desktop? As someone who has opted for gaming laptops for years, the option of moving them around, and the instances you do take them with you—even if infrequent—make it worth it. Even if the laptop isn't the most travel- friendly, as is the case with the Alienware 1. Yes, you can build a PC on your own with individually purchased parts, and a desktop is more powerful, but it's nice not to have your main gaming machine tied to one location. The Alienware 1. 5 R3's smaller sibling, the Alienware 1. One of my issues with the 1.

While our 1. 7- inch test model's screen doesn't go all the way to UHD (though the option is available when ordering), it does bump up to QHD (2,6. The screen is sharp, as you'd expect at that resolution, and the picture quality is good.

You get wide viewing angles since it's an In- Plane Switching (IPS) panel, and color reproduction is solid. It's just that the overall picture isn't particularly remarkable where some gaming screens are stunning, like those in the Razer Blade laptops. The keyboard and touchpad are as well- constructed as the laptop's frame, and perform reliably. The keyboard isn't chiclet- style, so the keys are packed closely together rather than slightly spaced. The latter is more common with modern laptops, so it will probably take a little while to get used to, but it's no problem once you adjust.

The keys have a nice bounce to them that facilitates speedy typing, and there's enough room for a number pad on the 1. There's a macro key column on the left, which is customizable using the included Alienware Command Center software, where you can also find the lighting options. The colors of the keyboard and touchpad can be changed in a different tab there, along with the remaining lighting strips and buttons on the laptop. There are 1. 2 locations total.

As with the Alienware 1. R3, the audio quality isn't the greatest. The speakers get quite loud at full volume, but the larger laptop doesn't make way for deeper bass or richer sound. Output isn't tinny, but voices in particular sound somewhat muted or recessed, and the front- facing speakers sound less powerful if you're not directly in front of them. I was admittedly listening critically to see if there's an improvement over the 1. Still, these speakers won't likely wow you, and you'll be better served by some nice headphones. Features and Customization.

Given the plentiful physical real estate, the Alienware 1. R4 offers plenty of connection options. The right side holds a USB- C port, a USB 3. Noble Lock slot (the cable and lock are not included). There's another USB 3. Killer Ethernet jack, an HDMI port, a USB- C port with Thunderbolt 3, the power adapter connection, and a proprietary port for the Alienware external graphics amplifier, into which you can place a desktop graphics card for the laptop to utilize.

The laptop also features Tobii eye- tracking technology and, unlike the 1. A shiny bar runs along the bottom bezel, behind which is the eye- tracking camera that determines where you are looking. As with the Alienware 1. It's integrated into a variety of standard retail games, including big titles like Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, The Division, and Rise of the Tomb Raider.

Depending on the title, Tobii enhances certain elements of the gameplay, but the most common is locking or applying aim assist to the target you're looking at. In games like Elite: Dangerous, it gives you a wider range of vision, and you can use it to look around your ship's cockpit. The Tobii site has a list of games that make use of Tobii, and clicking each will explain how it works in that particular scenario. I tried the demo that comes with the software after calibrating it to my eyes, and while it was straining and a bit tiring to look around the environment to blast asteroids, it generally worked. Tobii is optional in the Alienware 1. R4, but it may be appealing enough to add to your order. There's plenty of storage in this sizable system in the form of a 5.

GB SSD and a 1. TB 7,2. That's the same amount as in the 1. To compare, the Origin EVO1.

Smanages to pack in a 5. GB SSD and a 2. TB HDD. Either way, this is an area where the Alienware excels over the Razer Blade Pro, which only includes a 5. GB SSD, and adding more storage is very pricey since there's no hard drive option. You can configure the R4 as you order, a boon for gamers who can't justify the most expensive build and need to tweak some options to find the sweet spot between performance, features, and price. You can change the storage, memory, graphics card, display resolution, and alter a few other extras.

At the lowest capacity, you can order just the 1. TB HDD, while the lowest dual- drive solution is the 1. TB HDD with a 1. 28. GB SSD and the highest is a 1. TB HDD and 1. TB SSD.

You can even opt for a triple drive of two 1. TB SSDs and a 1. TB HDD. The display options range from 1. K, graphics cards range from the 1. Ti to the GTX 1. 08. RAM goes from 8. GB to 3. GB. Not every option is available with every other combination of spec, so choose carefully as you order, but the flexibility allows you to build the right system for your needs.

Alienware supports the laptop with a one- year warranty. Pure Power. The Alienware 1. R4 is, in no uncertain terms, a blazing fast laptop. The 2. 9. GHZ Intel Core i. HK processor is fast and can be overclocked up to 4. GHz. It's also packed with 1.

GB of memory, and an Nvidia GTX 1. General performance is excellent, right in line with the EON1. X 1. 0 Series across the board, and ahead of the Blade Pro on a few fronts, meaning it can crunch through any productivity task or multimedia project without much trouble. That speed translates to stellar 3. D and gaming performance. On the Heaven and Valley gaming tests at native QHD resolution and Ultra- quality settings, the 1.

R4 averaged 7. 5 frames per second (fps) and 8. Since 6. 0fps is the target for smooth performance, those are great results, and it soared to an average of more than 1. I confirmed the results with some real- world testing using Doom running in QHD at the Ultra graphics preset.

It ran far over 6. During gaming sessions and the more intensive benchmark tests, the fans did spin loudly while working to cool the system.

Kia Sportage SX Turbo Review. SAN DIEGO, California — No new- car segment is more competitive than that of the compact crossover. This is one of the most in- demand types of vehicles for everyone from young families to baby boomers, desired by drivers from the snowbelt to South Beach.

The Kia Sportage, however, has never managed to make much of an impact. The Sportage’s nearly 5. The Teacher (2017) Watch Online.

Ford Escape, Toyota RAV4, and Honda CR- V, all of which easily cracked the 3. The all- new 2. 01. Kia Sportage could be the vehicle to draw in more customers than ever before. Based on essentially the same platform as the new Hyundai Tucson, the Sportage attempts to bring a mix of style, fun, and practicality to the often- staid crossover segment. Putting on the pounds. The 2. 01. 7 Kia Sportage grows in both length and wheelbase compared to its predecessor, so head- and legroom increase for both rows of seats.

Meanwhile, cargo room climbs 1. That’s pretty good for the class, though it does fall behind the supremely spacious trunk of the Honda CR- V, as well as the Mazda CX- 5, Nissan Rogue, and Ford Escape. The trunk’s liftover height is now 2 inches lower, too. Unfortunately, the extra size (and the increased level of equipment on board) has pushed weight up considerably on all trim levels, with curb weights now ranging from 3,3.

This weight gain comes even though Kia has dramatically increased the use of high- strength steels from 1. It’s also disappointing when nearly every other new car, from the Chevrolet Cruze up to the Audi Q7, has lost weight when it was redesigned. The high- strength steels do pay off in terms of safety and visibility. The Sportage’s A- pillars are an inch narrower than before and its C- pillars 2 inches narrower, reducing blindspots, yet structural rigidity is up 3. Plus, Kia expects the 2. Sportage will ace the tough Insurance Institute for Highway Safety small- overlap crash test; the current model scores a “Poor” rating in that test.

Putting on a new face. A brash, new exterior style is without a doubt the most controversial thing about the 2.

Kia Sportage. We dig the smooth, chunky look, but we suspect not everyone will love the cartoonish front fascia and high- mounted headlights. Nevertheless, once you consider the chunky fenders and an airy greenhouse, plus lots of fun color choices, the Sportage is a lot more interesting to look at the rest of the segment’s entries.“It tested really, really well in the clinics. We were really surprised at how it came across,” says Kia product planning vice president Orth Hedrick. All- wheel- drive models get a unique front fascia with more clearance for better approach angles, as well as a 0.

Of course, we doubt most Sportage drivers will get much benefit from these last details except when tackling deep snow. Fun to drive, too. Since Kia sells twice as many Sportages in Europe as in the U. S., the Korean company let the Europeans take the lead in development. The official benchmark for the new 2.

Volkswagen Tiguan, says Sportage product planner Dan Sherman, because Kia wants a fun- to- drive character.“Our point of difference is a more dynamic experience overall,” Sherman says. Only the fully loaded, 2. SX Turbo model was available for our drive, though the majority of shoppers buy LX and EX models. It’s the sporty model for people who, like us, care more about carving the mountainous two- lanes above San Diego than going to Costco. In addition to a 2.

SX gets larger brakes and firmer damper tuning than the LX and EX models, which themselves make do with a 1. With the caveat that it’s still a crossover, the Sportage SX is enjoyable to drive. Body motions are well damped, with little floatiness through turns.

The electric- assist power steering is greatly improved from the old Sportage, thanks in part to a more powerful processor and a redesigned steering box. Steering effort loads up naturally and delivers a very progressive, realistic feel. The steering effort is on the heavier side for this segment, reminding us of the Mazda CX- 5, which is fun but not necessarily the best thing for urban driving.

Compared to the engine in last year’s Sportage SX Turbo, the new 2. Quiet, smooth operation means you’ll rarely hear the engine in the cabin.

It pulls easily and deliberately through the automatic transmission’s six forward gears, but considering the power rating, we were expecting a bit more punch from a 2. The turbo engine also is an oddity in an era when many mainstream crossovers have given up on powerful, thirsty engines. The SX returns only 2. AWD results in a thoroughly uncompetitive 2. The handsome interior has supremely legible gauges, a responsive touchscreen infotainment system, and physical buttons that click home with a satisfying quality. The back seats recline at several angles and fold down easily, though there is no handle to fold them from the cargo area.

The trunk floor even has two heights so owners can pick between a totally flat surface or gaining a few inches of extra height. Kia used more soft- touch materials in the 2.

Sportage than its predecessor, and the dash and center stack follow the stylish (if not particularly daring) triangles- and- polygons look of other new Kia models like the Optima. Above all, the Sportage is an easy place to spend time. Improved acoustic insulation keeps wind and road noise to a minimum, while the suspension dispatches with bumps and potholes before they are felt or heard by passengers, even when you find 1.

SX tester. A natural driving position and supportive seats make it easy to get comfortable in seconds, and every control is positioned in a logical and easy- to- reach place. Optional features include a panoramic sunroof, automatic emergency braking that works at up to 4. Apple Car. Play/Android Auto, LED fog- and taillights, heated and cooled seats, a heated steering wheel, lane- keeping assist, blind- spot monitoring, and Kia’s handy power- operated liftgate.

In other words, the 2. Sportage has pretty much all the gadgets we look for in modern cars. Best of all, Kia notes that its aggressive pricing strategy means several appealing options — heated seats, leather upholstery, Apple Car.

Play/Android Auto — can be had for several thousands of dollars less than on rival crossovers. The one we want, though maybe not the one we should buy.

The 2. 01. 7 Kia Sportage has made huge strides from the old version. Compared to our Four Seasons 2. Sportage EX, the new car is roomier, more comfortable, better to drive, quieter, and much more handsome inside. It’s a car we enjoy spending time with, and it really is a great value for money. Yet its so- so fuel efficiency puts a serious damper on how readily we’d recommend this car to people who need to save at the pump. In comparison, the 2.

Hyundai Tucson, which is based on the same platform as the Sportage, might not be as boldly designed or as fun to drive, but its highway fuel mileage benefit is undeniable. City Of Ghosts (2017) Movie Dvd Quality. And several other smart compact crossovers have much roomier cargo areas.

So although the 2. Kia Sportage SX Turbo is a great crossover that we’d be happy to live with, it won’t be the first pick for sensible shoppers who need the most efficient and spacious vehicle they can afford.
